Snow Still Rules

I hereby decree…

Snow is awesome!

You might recall I wrote a rant nearly three years ago essentially stating that Snow Rules. I love snow. I always have. Yet everyone thinks I’m crazy because they hate snow because it is an inconvenience.

I wonder if this is just another sign that I’m not as “mature” as I “should” be. Liking snow is very “childish”. Hating snow is very “adult”. How dare I, an adult by age and build, declare that snow is awesome? Because it is! :doitnow:

What brings this on now? We’ve had snow here today. Still snowing right now. First snow of the season, and rather early for this area, since it’s rare we see any substantial snow before Christmas. So to go to work I got to drive in it.

Now here’s where people used to scoff at me about my love for snow. They used to say “yeah, well, you don’t have to drive in it!”

Well, this wasn’t the first time, since I got the car back in February, and there was still a little bit of winter left then, and there were a couple of snowy trips. Still, though, might as well wait until this season to try that some more.

So I woke up this morning, let out my usual squeal of joy at seeing every surface covered in fluffy flaky white snow, and got ready for work. Right before I left, my dad called me (he leaves for work about an hour before I do) saying he was still stuck in traffic and hadn’t even gotten to the American Legion Bridge yet (that’s the bridge over the Potomac connecting Maryland and Virginia, for those of you not from around here, and immediately after on the VA side is the exit onto George Washington Parkway, which goes right into downtown DC). Typical DC area losing their minds about a little snow. The snow itself is fine, if you’re not an idiot, but when there’s snow, everyone starts acting like idiots, so there’s the road danger and the accidents and the long ass backups.

Anyway, he suggested I wait a bit before heading off to work, but I of course ignored this because that would just make me really late. So I went out anyway. Brushed the snow off my car with my arm and froze my hands in the process, hehe. Then got in and carefully headed off. I work only about three miles from home.

You know, I got there okay! No real delays. Only once rode over what seemed to be ice, which was scary, but fine. Yet I was the envy of everyone else. I was like the only one who wasn’t caught up in long ass traffic. Other people took a couple hours to go like seven miles.

Then this afternoon, the CEO sends me out to go pick up a flute mouthpiece from Music and Arts Center all the way out on Rockville Pike. Not even business related, it was for his son. Well, either way, I said I’d do it so I was back out on this wonderfully wintry day! Some annoying traffic, but was normal type to the place and time regardless of weather conditions. Returned after about an hour.

Then a couple hours later, came home. Again, uneventful. The one road wasn’t really treated, or it hadn’t been for a while anyway, but seemed fine. It hadn’t gotten cold enough again for everything to freeze over.

And you know what? Everywhere, everything was so damn gorgeous! Snow can make the ugliest looking parking lots and strip malls look like beautiful places. Leaves an eerie quiet in the woods. Turns everything around you that you know into something else.

And turns DC area residents into fucking morons.

But not me! I love snow! I drive in it and I still love snow!

So STFU, haters.

  1. I like snow, but I don’t like driving in it. Nor do I like shoveling it. But still, it can be very beautiful, as long as I’m wearing good shoes and don’t get snow inside my shoes giving me frostbite.
