Don’t Just Ban… BURN!

May 20, 2009

Here, read this.

:dubious:

Yup. Some Wisconsin library got bullied into banning certain books, as well as firing the library board members who dissented. Let’s have a look.

On Monday night, The West Bend Common Council voted for a second time not to reinstate four members of the library board because of their views. The Council upheld its April 21st decision because of the board members’ refusal to remove controversial books from the young adult section of the library prior to a formal review.

Oh, heavens, how dare those horrid rogue board members have such reprehensible views that, oh, library censorship is bad! Not like a library is supposed to be a house of information and knowledge or anything. Libraries are supposed to be, uh, well… I’m not sure exactly. Considering it would have only some info and not others. (Maybe something along the lines of a youth rights organization’s casualty list. That’s right. I went there.) :cute:

The board members are accused of promoting “the overt indoctrination of the gay agenda.”

And that would be…? It’s always some vaguely defined “agenda”. Gay agenda. Liberal agenda. Doesn’t mean anything but used to stir the unwitting ignorami of the world into a frenzy of paranoia. Of course, if their idea of a “gay agenda” involves such horrible things like treating gay people as equals and not beating the shit out of a guy for wearing pink, then I hope paranoia is the least of what they are beset with. How dare these rogue board members be tolerant of others! The nerve!

Service Learning

April 28, 2009

Alright, this is another one of those entries that most of my NYRAnian friends will be wanting my head on a platter for, but screw those whiny idiots, I’m saying it anyway.

I really don’t have a problem with the student service learning hours that are required for a high school diploma.

“Oh, WTF, Katrina?! We thought you were a youth rights supporter! How can you be okay with being forced to do community service?”

Funnily enough, the main difference here is how I’m choosing to look at it. It’s not forced community service, or at least calling that misses the point. It’s more a very freeform homework assignment.

Above the Anti-Drug Influence

December 27, 2008

I hereby decree…

Make those horrible, mind-numbing, downright insulting anti-drug ads go the fuck away!

I swear, I want to break something and stab the nearest kitten in the eyes whenever an anti-drug ad comes on TV. Especially that particularly bad one they’ve been running that’s apparently about a boy watching his sister smoke pot in her room and the sight somehow traumatizing him and the ad somehow implying the pot is harming him just as much as her… What?! I haven’t the slightest idea what it’s supposed to mean, if anything. I’m quite sure the sole purpose is to make people whose IQ’s are above 50 want to take a few hits off a bong to ease the pain of the sheer stupidity, just so the Office of National Drug Control Policy can be like “oh noes, so many more people are smoking pot, pot will KILL YOU!!!11!”

fye on Them!

December 20, 2008

So I was just Christmas shopping today at the mall, and sure enough, I’m walking by the f.y.e. and what do I see there to annoy me but a taped up sign saying “All f.y.e customers under age 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.”

Ugh. So, I then had to abandon my Christmas shopping for a bit and go out to my car to get my trusty flyer about how age discrimination is illegal in Maryland. I returned to the store to try to talk to an employee about it and get them to remove the sign.

What the Swear Is this Curse?

December 13, 2008

Now for a profane, wicked version of…

YOU SUCK!!!!

These morons all over the place who are whiny crying idiots over so-called swear words. Oh noes, don’t use such language on TV or in public, because people might be offended.

Does it offend you? If not, then you are at least marginally respectable. If so, GOOD! You deserve to be offended, dumbass. If you’re going to give mere words and sounds so much power over you, you deserve to be miserable over it. The rest of us will carry on happily.

End the Innocence

December 8, 2008

I hereby decree…

Innocence is killing kids!

That’s right. You heard me.

Just what is this childhood innocence? What is this concept of innocence all adults collectively cling to and beset their children with? Honestly, I’m not sure anyone really knows.

Oh, well, surely I must be nuts, right? Why burden young children with the truths of the adult world? Why can’t they enjoy their young lives while they still can, in the bliss of ignorance?

Smile! You’re Speeding

December 6, 2008

Ah, speed cameras. Not a problem if you’re like me and know to watch for them. Then I slow way the hell down to a crawl while passing them, with cars behind me surely getting angry but, well, I’m doing this for their own good.

Except I did get caught by one earlier this year because it was hidden in a parked car. So I received a lovely photo of the back of my car and was out $40. Meh.

Anyway, the other day, saw this article come over NYRA’s youth rights news wire.

Self-Defense

December 1, 2008

I hate to kick off the December montage of entries with something so disgusting, in a time of year that is supposed to be happy and joyful, but, well, there are a lot of things I hate. This is pretty high up on the list.

Girl Punched Dad During Spanking

CRESTVIEW, Fla. — A 16-year-old Florida girl who hit her father when he tried to spank her has been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report said the father told a deputy that he was attempting to spank the girl when she turned around and struck him in the face with her fist.

The report said she tried to hit him several more times before leaving with friends.

Both father and daughter said the argument started over an item that had been broken. She acknowledged that when he went to spank her, she punched him, the report said.

….

Do I even need to point out everything that is very WRONG with this scenario?

Violent Video Games

August 13, 2008

Now for a gory yet clever edition of…

Here’s to You!!!!

So I raise my glass and say, “Here’s to you, violent video game manufacturers!”

You people are so stupid. No, not the manufacturers. The general public. The manufacturers are quite intelligent. They see a mass of humans who will shriek at the mere idea of mixing kids and violence in any way (unless it’s violence perpetrated by the parents, in which case they’re all for it, but that’s another matter entirely). What does that usually mean? Lots of sensationalist news reports. So finally the video game makers thought to themselves “wouldn’t free advertising be awesome?”
