What did I do today? Got off work early because of the holiday. Sweet. Where did I go? Home? Nah. Not yet. There was something else I wanted to do first. Rode a couple of buses to a small Mediterranean food store on Randolph Road called Asadur’s Market.<\/p>\n

I was in the store ten years ago today, on December 22, 1996. During that visit something special happened, a special event I cherish to this day, even if rather trivial at a glance. But I don’t care. It matters to me.

\nIt’s the story of a 13-year-old me, having begun the year on a great note, but then befallen with broken friendships, plummeting grades, and a just plain darker outlook. Dark it was into the dark days of December, until about the winter solstice, when the days would get longer again, I was caught up in a bit of a quest. While everything else in my life still sucked, I had this if nothing else.<\/p>\n

What the hell am I talking about, you ask? Don’t worry. I jotted it all down. Copied (almost) exactly from a little notebook where I wrote it all back in 1997, so to preserve the feeling of the times, even if my writing style made crack-addicted monkeys look brilliant. The newest addition to the Miscellaneous section of the Fortress, a true story, I bring you…<\/p>\n

Perhaps I’ll go into further detail someday about what I discuss in this piece. Funny to think how much of the events surrounding these songs shaped my life or were signs of my times. Cool, though.<\/p>\n

Not to mention it explains my emotional attachment to the lost Twin Towers of Manhattan. Sigh.<\/p>\n
