The Quarter

We are now one quarter of the way through the sixth round of the 100 Days of Summer. Today is Day 25.

What in the heck is the 100 Days of Summer?!

Hehe. I suppose some of you may have been wondering about the new category as well as the little notice adorning the bottoms of the past several entries. You see, the 100 Days of Summer is a tradition of mine, since the original back in 2001. It begins May 24 and ends August 31.

On May 24, it begins, and the end is so far away it doesn’t seem real. Day one. Then two. Then three. And so on, for while the end is so far away, you just want to go one day at a time. Eventually would come day ten. Good. One tenth of the way there. Day 20 before long. Then the day like this, Day 25. Quarter of the way there. Day 33 is the third, on June 25. Day 40 on July 2. Then finally comes July 12. High noon. Halfway. The fifty-fifty, I call it. You look upon the fifty days gone by and down the slope at the fifty remaining. Day 50. And onward! Rushing down to the end, now more in sight. Finally Day 70, on August 1. The three quarter mark on August 6, Day 75. Then August 21, Day 90. The countdown starts. Day 91. Day 92. Day 93. And so on. Day 97. Day 98. Day 99. And, at last, it has arrived. Day 100. It is over.

These days used to mean the time I was away from college. I mean, I hate summer, especially back then when it meant I was away from school, where I was happy, and stuck at home with my family, where I was miserable. Since school’s over, the 100 Days of Summer don’t have the same meaning. If anything, since Science Village started on September 1, it’s almost like a countdown to its anniversary. Hehe. Although I admit summer now isn’t as miserable as it used to be, but that’s only because the rest of the year is just as crappy these days.

I’ll get into a more detailed description about the original later on. More specifically how this came to be. For now, let’s just leave on that it has grown into one of my most prized traditions, even if it was never really a sign of something good or happy.

This has been Day 25 of the 100 Days of Summer, Round 6.
